About the Afrika Community Salzburg Platform
Many people of different origins live in Salzburg and are shaped by diverse cultural backgrounds. A significant part of them are people with African roots. This prompted Rosina Danso and Dorcas Thiga to invite groups, associations, and individuals working on African topics to a first networking meeting in summer 2023, so they could get to know each other and plan shared activities and events in the future.
The idea quickly emerged to organize, building among others on events such as “24h Afrika” in 2013, a broadly supported festival of African cultures led by African communities, associations, and their friends. In November 2024, the association “Afrika Plattform Salzburg” was founded with the goal of not only organizing events, talks, and workshops in Salzburg, but also offering the different African communities in Salzburg a platform to network, present themselves to the public, and make their cultural and social contributions visible.
In addition, the association aims to strengthen children and young people growing up here in their identity development, pass on the diversity of African cultures to them, engage in exchange with the Austrian population, and organize events and workshops on topics such as integration, social issues, education, political participation, and cultural exchange together with Salzburg institutions and organizations.
